5 Million Bloggers

Technorati says shows this morning that, for the first time, it is tracking, as of 7:15 this morning, Pacific Time, 5,000,337 bloggers up from 100,000 two years ago. The site also estimates that 50 million Internet users now read blogs and there are over 700,000 million links. Over 12,000 new blogs are started every day and over 10,000 weblogs are updated every hour.

Blogging is the fastest growing technology phenomenon in history. Yet it's only just begun. These numbers imply that only 10 percent of the Internet is going to the blogs. I wonder what these numbers will look like in five, then and 50 years.
