I’m at BlogOn at UC Berkeley and Cody’s the fabled local bookseller just set up a table. I watched them open the first carton of Dan Gillmor’s “We, the media” to be offered at retail. For those who read advance chapters online, it is a very different book, with new title and central premise. I liked the few chapters that I did read of the old version. I have a hunch, I’ll like this even more. I’ve come to know Gillmore these past couple of years because we both travel part of the conference circuit as well as the Bay Area blogging world. I’ve come to see him as a first-rate thinker about what this social media phenomenon is all about, as we as what it promises to do and undo.
He signed it, thanking me for “being the first,” (at retail at least). I told him I hope he sells millions of them. He told me that wasn’t possible. I told him the number was a blessing, not a forecast. In a few days the book will be in full distribution. This book is for anyone interested in the three-way intersection of technology, publishing and communications. I say this with some confidence, even before I read it. The author is a smart and thoughtful guy.
